Pesticides are undesirable contaminants often present in food samples, particularly in fruits. A preliminary step (extraction) is conducted to transfer the pesticides from the original fruit matrix (in this paper matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) was used) to a chromatographic system (in this paper gas chromatography with electron-capture detection (GC-ECD) was used) in order to determine the target compounds.

Chiral HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) constitutes a central part in the evaluation of the organocatalytic potential of new ligands in prototypical asymmetric reactions. The graphical abstract correlates in a wordplay a high ee (enantiomeric excess) chromatogram with a good Cat* (catalyst) and a racemic chromatogram with an unsatisfactory Cat*.
